Pressure Washer Rental: A step by step guide for renting a pressure washer

Pressure Washer Rental: A step by step guide for renting a pressure washer

Pressure Washer Rental Step by Step

You can save time and money with a pressure washer rental for your job.   The key is a few simple planning steps to get the most out of your pressure washer rental.   Follow the easy steps below for a successful power washing job.

Steps for a successful pressure washer rental

1. Plan the Job

One of the most important steps is the plan for the job.  Identify all of the surfaces you plan to power wash with this pressure washer rental.  Often times there are multiple things you can pressure wash in one rental.  For example, you may want the pressure washer mainly to clean the deck but the siding and driveway could use pressure washing too.  Does your neighbor need to rent a pressure washer too?  If so you may be able to save money by sharing the rental cost.  The type of jobs you plan for the pressure washer will determine what equipment you need to rent.

Questions you need to answer for the next step

  • What surfaces do I plan to pressure wash?
  • Do I have all the additional equipment needed for the job?  For example, do you need a ladder for pressure washing the siding?
  • Do I have a source of water and long enough hose to reach the job location?
  • If I need hot water pressure wash (see table in step 2) do I have electrical outlet plus cord needed to reach the job?

2. Identify the equipment needed

With the plan for the job in place, the next step is to determine the equipment needed.  Use the table below to determine the proper pressure washer rental equipment needed for the job.

Pressure Washer Rental Size Chart

Job                                PSI                 Temp
Deck                          1500-2000            Cold
Siding                        1500-2000            Cold
Concrete                    3000                    Cold
Outdoor furniture    1500-2000          Cold
Boat (barnacles)        3000                    Cold
Car                               700-2000            Cold
Heavy grease or oil   1500-2000       Hot water orCold water plus chemicals
Others..  Check with rental company

You will also need to determine if you need specific accessories like an extended wand to reach high places, soap, or chemical cleaners for the job.

If you are not sure, ask your rental company you use for tips.

3.Determine How Long You Need the Pressure Washer Rental

Rental rates can be by the hour, 1/2 day, or day.  It is important to size the job properly so you know how long you need to rent the equipment.  Pressure washers are amazing cleaning devices, however, it can take some time to clean a large job like a driveway.  Take into account transportation time and breaks.  As a general rule of thumb you can clean approximately 8 to 10 square feet per minute assuming 2000 PSI and 3 Gallons Per Minute (GPM) flow rate.  The higher the GPM and PSI the faster the job will go.

4. Call for Pressure Washer Rental Rates

Now that you know the pressure washer rental equipment you need and for how long, look on line for a few rental companies to get the rates for the equipment you need.  Many home improvement stores like Home Depot and Lowes rent pressure washer equipment.  There are many local rental companies that will have the equipment too.  If you need some more choices check out RentalHQ to find the equipment you need.

Clearly understand the rate terms and what all is included.  Keep in mind the transportation distance.

5. Reserve Equipment

Reserve your pressure washer rental over the phone using a credit card for the length of time determined in step 3.  Review the contract terms when you pick up the equipment.  Make sure you have the right vehicle for transportation.  Most pressure washers will fit in a pick up track or mini van (with seats folded down).

Pressure Washer Rental Success!

A pressure washer rental makes so much sense (and cents) you get the exact equipment you need for the job, no maintenance, and no storage space required.  If you combine jobs with the pressure washer rental (either your own or with a neighbor) you can save even more money.  All it takes is a little planning using the steps above and you will have a successful pressure washer rental experience.
